island of the Cyclades, if there is a way to measure it, after Santorini. The volcano of Milos is actually a lot bigger and older than the one in Santorini. You cannot really see the crater, but it’s actually the main element that has given shape form to the island. Milos has more than 60-70 different beaches all around the coasts of the island, so there is always a nice beach to visit when you feel like it. Milos is natural shaped as a port, the largest natural port of the Mediterranean Sea and one of the most important in the Aegean Sea.

Elements of Milos is located in Parasporos area, it is really close to Adamas which is the heart of the island during summer time. Adamas is the port where the ferries come and go and it is very close to the airport too. It is tourist hub for Milos, a bit more mainstream and commercial area. You can find plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes etc. Night life of the island is mostly focused in Adamas, have in mind that Milos is not like a party island so you cannot find anything too extreme, some bars, but this is great for couple of drinks with beautiful views over the port. In Adamas you can also find banks, ATMS, car rental companies, scooter or quad, match all the services you might be needed at your stay you can find it there. It’s also the main bus hub. There are bus connections in Milos and all starts from Adamas. There is actually a bus stop right outside of Elements of Milos if you like to use, and you can find the time tables for the buses on milosbuses.com. There are also travel agencies in Adamas. Milos has a few museums, but probably the most important and interesting one is the Mining Museum, most because it has a variety of minerals. It represents the character of the island. It’s not a very big museum, though it’s very well organized. All the exhibits and information are very well presented. In Adamas you can also find a religious museum or ecclesiastical museum.

Moving on to the north, Plaka is the capital of the island. It is a traditional, typical image of a Greek island, small restaurants, beautiful cafes, souvenir shops, very sophisticated atmosphere and incredible views over the entrance of the port. Because Plaka is built on a hill, it’s probably the best area for a beautiful sunset to see. It is yet quite crowded in sunset time but it is totally worth it. Very good restaurants and some very good bars, so not very vibrant nightlife you could say but still somewhere you can enjoy a nice drink.

Right of Plaka we have a complex of villages where the locals most relief, the most important being Tripiti, because it has the most archeological sights of Milos. Here we have the Catacombes of Milos, they are opened daily except Tuesdays. The place where Venus of Milos was discovered and the ancient roman theater. All are in the same area so you don’t have to worry about missing them.

At the bottom of all, we have the beautiful village of Clima, a traditional fishing village on the sea front. There is a really good restaurant there called ‘’Astakas’’, is very traditional and pictured with beautiful sunset views most of the summer time.
Over the other side, in these complexes of villages we have Mandrakia. Clima tends to be a bit touristier, Mandrakia is more authentic. It is a small seaside fishermen sitement, with their boat houses. Those are actually called Sirmata in Greek. They are like small garages for the fishermen boats where they store them during winter time. This is also quite interesting and very typical of Milos. It has also a very good restaurant there called ‘’Medusa’’ if you like to check it out.

Οn the northeast coast of Milos, we have Pollonia village one of the most important villages and areas of Milos. It is just a small seaside village with beautiful beach, many hotels and some of the best restaurants of the island. It is 10 minutes drive from Elements of Milos, so it’s really close. The road is in a very good condition. It has a couple of bars and also a very nice dessert shop. There is plenty of parking in the day time if you want to leave your car there. Pollonia has a connection with island of Kimolos. Kimolos is a small island right across of Pollonia. It’s a rather smaller version of Milos. There is a local ferry that runs every hour also depending on the season. It’s not very expensive to cross to Kimolos and you can certainly have a swim there and enjoy the beautiful ambient of the island in a day. You can find more information about the time tables, ticket cost and the prices of the island if you go on kimolos.gr.
Moving on from Pollonia to your way back here at Elements, we have the volcanic cave of Papafragas. This is a very big cave that it is open from the top and there is a small beach inside, you can not really climb out to swim but it’s very beautiful and very impressive as a natural and geological sight.

Next to Papafragas we have the ancient town of Filakopi. It was the first capital of Milos. Ιt was considered to be one of the most important centers of the Cycladic civilization in the area. On the north coast there are beaches like Pachaina, Agios Konstantinos and then of course Sarakiniko just five minutes from Elements of Milos and this is the highlight of the island along with Kleftiko. Sarakiniko has a beautiful landscape with white volcanic rocks which reflects the sunlight. It’s a loner landscape it feels like you’re on the moon out of this world. It gets quite crowded in the afternoon with lots of people swimming and because the beach is not very big, we would recommend visiting Sarakiniko a bit earlier in the day or a bit later around sunset time. You cannot see the sunset from Sarakiniko, there is no direct view but there are some beautiful colours on the rocks. There are many beautiful beaches along the north coast as well like Firopotamos, Plathiena and of course because Milos is versatile, if we have strong winds from the north you can swim to the south.

Leaving the north behind, we pass by Adamas again and as we move on to the south there are some very beautiful beaches like Paliochori where you can also find some beach bars, a couple of seaside tavernas and some other hotels. Provatas with beautiful golden sun, very clean and shallow waters and then Firiplaka, incredible waters, immense rock in the middle of the beach it’s quite impressive and a sea kayak operator takes short guided kayak tour if you want. There is also Agia Kiriaki with beautiful white pebbles, deep waters and a very famous beach of south Tsigrado. In order to visit Tsigrado you need to use a rope to climb up and down to the beach so it doesn’t really qualify as an easy beach but still is very beautiful. Maybe you can take the kayak to visit Tsigrado.

The west side of the island is not accessible by regular vehicle, you need a 4Χ4 like a jeep or quad. There are some beautiful beaches along the west coast but there is no civilization there, no villages, sometimes the signal is not very good on cell phone as well. We would recommend using 4X4 vehicle if you want to explore the west, take some bottle of waters, some snacks because you will not find anything at all. The sights for the east side are some beautiful beaches like Kastanas for example, Theiorixia which is quite popular and famous but it is not very easy to get there. Again you need 4X4 vehicle and depending on the condition of the road and the rainfall we have in winter, can be a little tricky to get there. The old sulfur mines are actually quite impressive, they are actual mines operating until the 1950s and they got abandoned, so now it’s like an amphitheater, you have the beach and all around it the abandoned houses and facilities of the mine. Actually there is a tourist guide that can get you there, but also a boat tour.

Finally, boat tours are the most famous and popular activities on the island because as Kleftiko, the lamer of Milos, southwest of the island is only accessible by boat. It’s not actually a beach, in the convention sense of the term, it’s mostly complex of caves and bays with beautiful crystal clear waters, incredible rock formations and it is just a marvel to look at and swim. There are many options for boat tours, from half a day tours to fully day Catamaran tour with snacks, refreshments, drinks, anything.

Enjoy your vacations!

BOOK NOW

IMPORTANT PHONE NUMBERS HEALTH CENTER: 2278360000 PORT AUTHORITY: 2287023360 POLICE DEPARTMENT: 2287021204 AIRPORT: 2287022381 TAXI STATION: 2287022219 INFORMATION OFFICE: 2287022445 Milos is a volcanic island, it is the second most volcanic island of the Cyclades, if there is a way to measure it, after Santorini.
